There are many superstitions and myths that come along with being pregnant. Things such as if your own mother didn’t lose weight after your birth, neither will you. Fitter woman have easier and quicker births and even if you have heartburn a lot throughout your pregnancy you’ll give birth to a child with a lot of hair.

Some of the myths and superstitions are enough to scare someone out of having a child or at least to think twice before they criticize or make fun of someone while they’re pregnancy, avoiding the chance that their child will reap the negative effects. And then there are the few that many follow, such as listening to classical music may increase your child’s intelligence and of course the healthy benefits of exercise and eating healthy that may bring goodwill to your child. But one of the most interesting and realistically uncontrollable attributes of giving birth is whether or not you can control the sex of the child.

Medically, if you want to conceive a boy, there is the Shettles Method. The fact that the X chromosome travels faster than the Y chromosome may determine the sex of your baby. A woman’s egg offers and X chromosome, to produce a boy you want a X and Y chromosome to join. An XX produces a girl. To ensure that the Y chromosome gets a head start it is best that the male orgasm first with deep penetration including sexual positions that get the ejaculation closer to the cervix, giving it a shorter distance to travel and less chance of not making the distance to the egg, it also should not be more than 24 hours after the beginning of ovulation. In rebuttal there is also the Whelan conception method, which would include having sex in the earlier parts of the monthly cycle because the Y chromosome only produces at certain times in the cycle, while the X chromosome will produce at any other time.

For this method to work you will need to know the females Basal Body Temperature and the exact dates of her ovulation. Dr Whelan claims that this will produce a boy 68% of the time with couples. But at a 90% accuracy rate, it may be best to read the Chinese Conception Chart, found over 700 years ago near Beijing. For that to be used properly you must know the mother’s lunar age and the baby’s lunar month of conception.

In the end, it comes down to the old wives tales such as focuses on the man’s pleasure when having intercourse, a diet of salty foods meat, and pop and even having sex on odd numbered days to increase the chances of having a boy. You could even offer your lover a cup of coffee beforehand to increase the speed of his Y Chromosomes or have the woman take a swig of cough syrup a few hours beforehand. Most importantly, always remember, boy or girl a child is a miracle and either sex you’ll love them just as well.
