As you head into your teen years you will notice changes in your body and in your emotions. Hairs begin to grow where previously there were none. You begin to feel a real interest in spending time with boys. You may begin to go on dates and may find a special one that you want to spend significant amounts of time with. But, as teen pregnancy rates rise, you need to know how to get pregnant with a boy so you can avoid unexpected pregnancies.

The notion of having a baby together may sound very romantic and like an adult thing to do, but having a teen pregnancy is a life altering event, usually not for the better. High school dropout rates are higher for teen moms. That cascades into lower wages and fewer employment opportunties. That leads to a lower standard of living, with many teen moms needing to be on welfare. Many times a teen pregnancy will break up the couple. Most young boys are less emotionally mature than girls and are not ready to become parents. Your social life will need to be curtailed dramatically because you cannot go out with friends on a whim anymore. So, it is almost always a good idea to avoid getting pregnant.

Let’s be very clear on one thing: the only way to get pregnant is to have sexual intercourse with a boy. Kissing will not impregnate you. There are some instances where a couple was doing some very heavy petting and came very close to intercourse and a pregnancy resulted, but those cases are very rare. So, if you abstain from sex you will not get pregnant. When a boy ejaculates during the course of intercourse, the semen go into the girl’s vagina, up to the uterus. If the girl is ovulating at that time there may be an egg that will join with a sperm. At that point you have a baby and it should implant into the uterus and grow for approximately nine months. There are usually no signs of pregnancy until the missed period. That usually is followed by some nausea and breast tenderness and increased moodiness.

If you suspect you are pregnant your first step should be to buy a pregnancy test from a supermarket or drug store. If that tests positive, you should be seen by a doctor as soon as possible. It may be difficult to tell your parents but it is not something you can avoid, so do it quickly. Teens who are pregnant need special monitoring and vitamins to ensure a healthy baby. Your parents’ medical insurance should pay for treatment. If you do not have medical insurance call your county health department and ask where you can receive free or discounted medical help.

Birth control is only partially effective in preventing pregnancy, so the only 100% sure way to avoid this life changing event is to NOT engage in sexual activity. This is a difficult thing to do, especially during the teen years, but it can be done with planning and resolve.
